MOVIE UPDATE

The editing of our movie

is now well underway

although pre-viewing

has been limited to the editors.

Anticipation is building as the

time for seeing Walk This Way on

the big screen gets closer. Our

plan is to have the first screening

at the Hollywood Cinema, 20 St

Georges Rd, Avondale on the
22nd of October at 6.30pm.

Tickets will be on sale from
Monday the 14th of October,

which is the first Monday back at

school after the holidays. There

are a limited number of tickets

available and they will be sold

on a first come – first served

basis. Seats will be allocated, so

the earlier you buy your ticket,

the better your seat. The tickets

are only on sale for ONE WEEK.

This may be a once in a life

time opportunity to see your

child acting, dancing and singing

on the big screen in a real movie

theatre, and to enjoy the talent

and hard work of everyone in

our school as we take you on

an amazing and unforgettable

journey through New Zealand’s

history. Bring your entire family,

extended family, neighbours

and friends. It will be an

unforgettable evening!

BUGS AND BOATS

After we watched the 2 starts for the America's Cup we started to make our germ bugs and boats. We are making them out of egg containers and today we painted them.
We will finish our boat building and germ creating by adding different materials to make sails, masts, keels, legs, eyes and anything else our imaginations come up with.

GO TEAM NZ!!!

Room 21 are watching the America's Cup- fingers crossed!

SCIENTISTS ON THE JOB

Room 21 had a go at being SCIENTISTS today starting off with a great discussion of what a scientist actually does.  Our question to find the answer to is WHERE DO THE MOST GERMS GROW?

We took germ samples with a cotton bud from the class door handle,  our rubbish bin, the water fountain and a white board marker. We put the samples into a PETRI DISH.

We predicted what would have the most germ growth out of our samples.  Nearly all of us predict the rubbish bin sample will grow the most bacteria.

Here is Isabella getting a sample and here are our germy faces!  EWWW!!!!

COMPOST KIDS CREATING GARDENS!

Today we planted cosmos seeds and calla lily bulbs in the school garden. We also planted lettuce, cosmos and marigold seeds in the pots outside our class.
A big thank you to our families for donating seeds and equipment.
We have more to plant and will keep doing it on Fridays at lunchtime.
We would love 2 parent or family helpers to take a small group outside during the day if anyone is available.

OUR SURPRISE VISITOR

Today we had a special guest in Room 21.  A bearded dragon! Bearded dragons eat mealy worms and insects.  They change colour when they get frightened or angry. We had to be really quiet when the bearded dragon came to visit and some of us got to pat her.

CONGRATULATIONS AVA!

Ava received the Ara Teina assembly certificate for her motivation and enthusiasm to climb the Reading beanstalk.  Ka pai Ava!

We are going to set up a potted garden outside our class. If anyone has any spare plastic planters,  potting mix or seedlings we would welcome any donations.  Just bring them to Room 21.

ARTY SMARTY

Today we started painting the borders for our stories to hang in the window.  We used a primary colour today, then we will print a pattern with a secondary colour. We are so arty smarty!

BUBBLES

This week we have been finding words, blends and rhyming words in our poem Bubbles.  What a great time to try to make our own bubble wands out of garden wire and our own bubble liquid out of dish washing liquid.  We experimented with blowing soft, hard, close and further away. So much fun!

COMPOST KIDS

Today at lunchtime we started the Compost Kids Social Club and started off spring by weeding the school gardens.
We would like to start a garden outside Room 21.  We need some plastic planters if you have any spares. We could grow an edible garden and grow flowers to help our class look beautiful.

MISS READ INDEED!

How lucky were we today to have a special art lesson with Arahoe School's art teacher Miss Read.
She taught us about primary colours and how to make secondary colours.
We are going to experiment with the colours next.
We will use our new learning about contrasting colours to decorate our window story display!

HEY YOU!

Someone was watching Miss Ellis making breakfast on the weekend!  Yes, she was making eggs on toast. Awkward!

DYLAN, TOBY AND ANYA CLIMB THE BEAN TO GREEN

Congratulations Dylan, Toby and Anya for climbing the Reading beanstalk to Green level.
Super strategies they use are: sounding out words, and re-reading sentences if they don't make sense.
Congratulations!  We are proud of you!

SPRING INTO SPRING!

This morning we went for a walk and found blossoms on the fruit trees in the orchard.
It is wonderful seeing what is happening in the garden and our environment at spring time.
We will start the Compost Kids Social Club on Fridays at lunchtime and get some vegetables growing.
It was a lovely day to eat our lunch on the steps.  We will need to bring our hats on sunny days.

Spring is in the air!
