Room 18 Drop Off Times

Room 18 has some keen and eager students who arrive at school very early.

Just a reminder to drop children off from 8.30am as teachers are not always in class, or are preparing for the day ahead.

We would also appreciate it if parents and caregivers could leave just before the bell goes so children are settled on the mat for when the school day starts.

Please feel free to make a time with us if you need to discuss anything regarding your child's day at school.

Thanks for all the Buddy Reading support!  We are testing Reading levels again, and are very pleased with the results.

Kind regards,
Sarah and Louise.

WARM WINTER WOOL FROM THE SHEEP TO THE SWEATER

Jesse brought all her wool in to show us what happens to wool after it is shorn off the sheep.   She showed us the different stages wool goes through to make it ready to knit or crochet.  Wool can be dyed too. Look at the beautiful colours.   We made a word list to use for story writing. Thanks Jesse!

Buddies Buddy Reading

Our first week of buddy reading when we get to school in the morning went so well.   We read our books from the night before to a buddy then wrote our names on a piece of paper and put our names in a hat.
Our first Buddy Reader prize draw  was won by Persia.  Congratulations Persia and great job to everyone who took part.
You are helping yourself and you are helping your buddy be the best reader they can be!  Ka pai Room 18!

DIFFICULT SHAPES- CAN WE COUNT THE SIDES?

We know a square has 4 sides.
We know a triangle has 3 sides.
We know a circle has 1 continuous side.

But how many sides does an octagon have?
How many sides does a hexagon have?
How many sides does a pentagon have?

What are the other shapes and how many sides do they have?

Thank You Parents!

A  quick note to say a big thank you to our parents.  Thanks for helping on trips, buying us food for fundraising,  letting us go to the disco by ourselves, showing us how to do things like crochet and make butter, and for sharpening our pencils and helping our teachers out!

MAKING BUTTER

Today Arlo's mum Jesse showed us how to make butter.  We put cream and salt into a container with a marble.  Then we shook it and shook it and SHOOK IT. The cream turned into a solid form and hey presto! We had fresh butter.  It was so yummy on bread.
After playtime we wrote a wordlist. A word list is a list of words we make to use for writing stories.  We wrote one story together and then we wrote stories for the new story wall. Some of us wrote our stories ourselves!
A HUGE THANKYOU TO JESSE FOR YOUR TIME AND FOR TEACHING US HOW TO MAKE BUTTER!  ★

Mr Povey takes the Roll

This morning, Austin took the Roll for Room 18! He said our names clearly and we replied "Good morning Austin" or "Good morning Mr Povey".
Thank you Austin!

I wonder who will take the roll this afternoon?

FARM TRIP PHOTOS

We went to the Mt Albert Grammer School Farm.   We met Farmer Larney and he showed us around the farm.  First we all had a go milking Brownie and Girl.  That really helped us answer our question!

When you milk a cow you have to pull gently on their teats.  That is how people milked cows before dairy farms used milking cups.
Next we met the piglets and calves. Farmer Larney fed the calves cows milk and they suckled from rubber teats.   We loved being able to explore and get our hands on the farm animals!

Last we watched Farmer Larney shear a sheep.  You have to be strong for that! Farmer Larney said his favourite part of the day was answering our questions.

Thankyou parent helpers for coming with us and helping out in so many ways.

Thankyou Farmer Larney for being our expert and letting us visit your farm.

Please see the notice for parents and caregiver on the Notices page of our blog.
