CROSS COUNTRY STARS!

Congratulations to all our runners in the Cross Country today.  We all completed it!  Yay.  Did you know that Sir Edmund Hillary climbed Mount Everest 60 years ago yesterday?  We learn resilience and perserverance just like Sir Ed, when we complete challenges like Cross Country.

Congratulations to Poppy who came 7th out of all the Year 1 girls, Nathan T who came 8th out of all the Year 1 boys and Nathan D who came 10th out of all the Year 1 boys!

Thanks for taking photos Toby!

MARVELLOUS MATHS

Today we watched a You Tube Clip which is helping us skip count in 2s.  Then we went into our Maths groups and did our Maths activities.  Some of us spent time with the teacher learning more marvellous maths!

Here is our You tube clip- you can help us learn to skip count in 2s to 20, and then all the way to 100!

Pragati won!

Getting our books out!

Rachel the librarian showed us how to scan our library card and where to put our book so that the computer can recognise it!
We are experts at getting our books out and we can even show our family what to do!!!!

Rachel has a very special certificate for Ara Teina if we go back to the library and say hello to her!

ROOM 18'S LIBRARY TRIP PICS

We had such a great time at New Lynn library today.
We walked down to the library and met Rachel the librarian.   She taught us about the Dewey System and how it can help us find books about any topic.
We searched for different kinds of books and these are some of the topics we found:
★ milking
★ farm animals
★ sharks
★ games
★ cockateils
★ fairies
★ food

It was so cool!
Rachel read us a story before we went home.

A big THANK YOU to our parents who helped,  and came to visit!

OUR TRIP TO NEW LYNN LIBRARY

WHAT WE THINK ABOUT OUR TRIP TO THE LIBRARY:

Anya said "I had a lovely time at the New Lynn library reading my books, and I had a wonderful time eating lunch."

Ava said "I had a great day.

Poppy said "I had a good time at the library.  I like having lunch, and we looked at books about farming, animals and cows."

Nathan T said "We had fun and I read books quietly with my mum."

Arlo said "I had a nice time and I liked the library.  I had a good time looking at my book."

Persia said "I had a good day walking from my school to the library, and I like reading books."

Isabella said "I liked the library because I like the librarian.  She is really nice."

Wether the Weather

Despite the rain overnight,  the forecast is still saying there won't be rain in New Lynn today.
If this is the case, we will go ahead with our library trip.
Raincoats,  sensible walking shoes, and an extra layer of clothing is required.

The weather forecast for next Wednesday looks like rain and winds,  so fingers crossed that today's forecast is accurate!

Thanks, Miss Ellis and Mrs Manu.

Brrrrrr... Weather Update!

What a cold day it has been!  Tomorrow we are meant to be walking to New Lynn Library.
Our teachers will decide in the morning wether the trip is on, or if we will go next week instead.

We are crossing our fingers!  Especially because the librarian at New Lynn said we can eat our lunch in the library if it is too wet outside!  Wow- what a treat!

The weather forecast for tomorrow says:

Chance of an early shower, with sunny spells.  Westerley breezes.

Sunny spells?  Who knew that the weather was magic?

Rainy day playtime in the hall!  Check out our commando moves- upper body strength!

JUST FOR LAUGHS

Action Learning Question

We have decided on our question to learn about!
HOW DID MILK GET FROM THE COW TO THE FRIDGE?
What a cool question! We will just have to visit a farm to help us find out. We need to think about how this happened in New Zealand history.

These photos show us voting on what question we want to answer.  8 of us want ed to learn about sheep shearing and 23 of us wanted to learn about milking! Do you think we were tempted by chocolate milk and ice cream?

Poem of the Week

In our poem of the week we are looking for the letter b, and the words you and see. Every day we go on a letter and word hunt!

Loving the Library

Today we learnt about Contents Pages.  They are in non fiction books and tell us what is inside the book. The numbers tell us what page different information is on.

Look at us enjoying reading ♥

RAINY DAY MONITORS

We are so lucky to have such good rain monitors from the senior school come and look after us on a rainy day.
Here is one of our monitors reading us a story after we played and tidied up.

Our Farmer Parade!

On Friday, we dressed up as Farmers to take part in the Parade at School. The Parade helped us learn about New Zealand History. It started with some children dressed as the first Maori settlers and ended with well known New Zealanders.
Here are Room 18 as Ye Old Farmers!
