PLANNING OUR STORY

Wow wee! Look what happened when we planned out our story before we wrote it!

When we plan a story we
1. Choose an interesting topic to write about.
2. Draw a quick picture of what the topic is about.
3. Write down 3 key words to use in our story.

Look at us writing our story.  It has 2 sentences. We wrote it by ourselves.

Yes, we gave ourselves a big paki paki!

SOUND IT OUT

We are learning to sound out words we don't know. Cody is using the spelling blocks to say the sounds in the word. THEN  he is re-reading the sentence to make sure it makes sense and fits the story.   Great reading strategies Cody! You were right- 'Ben was not asleep.'

★ Sound out: break words down into sounds then put the sounds together. A-s-l-ee-p
★ Does it make sense?  E.g. "Ben was not sleep." Noooo! Let's try again. "Asleep!" Yes that makes sense,  that sounds right.
★ Does it fit the story? Hmmm 'Ben's Teddy Bear'... " Ben was not a sausage." A sausage? What? That makes sense but it does NOT fit the story! Try again ☆☆☆

READING SURE IS FUN!

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!!!! IMPORTANT PRODUCTION NOTICE!

Dear Parents/ Caregivers,

Thank you so much for all of your help making the sheep headbands, we really do appreciate your help.

Next week Room 21 are filming their part in this year’s production. We have a real director coming to film each class.  We have been practicing our singing every day, as well as practicing out on the field where we will be filmed for the school movie.

Next Monday, 12th August, could you please make sure that your child brings the following to school (in a named plastic bag):

·         A plain white t-shirt/ jersey.

·         Long black trousers (any kind will do).

·         Gumboots (any).

These will be collected for when they start filming.
Unfortunately, if they don’t have the above, they won’t be filmed and will miss out in the movie.
We also need some help on the day with getting the children dressed and having their face painted like sheep. Please do let us know if you can help. We will put the date on the blog when we find out this Friday.

Thank you SO MUCH!!!

Mrs Manu and Miss Ellis

WORDS WE USE A LOT

We are always learning more words we read, write, and say a lot.
Sometimes they are called 'sight words' or 'high frequency words'.
Kheaiani is finding some sight words, writing them, and saying them as she reads them. Nice one Kheaiani!  You are a Reading Star ★
