SOUND IT OUT

We are learning to sound out words we don't know. Cody is using the spelling blocks to say the sounds in the word. THEN  he is re-reading the sentence to make sure it makes sense and fits the story.   Great reading strategies Cody! You were right- 'Ben was not asleep.'

★ Sound out: break words down into sounds then put the sounds together. A-s-l-ee-p
★ Does it make sense?  E.g. "Ben was not sleep." Noooo! Let's try again. "Asleep!" Yes that makes sense,  that sounds right.
★ Does it fit the story? Hmmm 'Ben's Teddy Bear'... " Ben was not a sausage." A sausage? What? That makes sense but it does NOT fit the story! Try again ☆☆☆

READING SURE IS FUN!
